| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicide treatments were evaluated on a predominantly Kentucky bluegrass fairway at Vail Golf Course in Vail, CO (elevation: 8000 ft) where gray snow mold occurs naturally during most winters. Treatments were applied on 7 Oct 86 to 5 ft x 5 ft plots in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Fungicides were applied in the equivalent of 5 gal water/1000 sq ft at 30 psi using a CO2 powered R & D sprayer equipped with a 8003 Tee-jet nozzle. A 5 ft x 5 ft x 2.5 ft high moveable spray shield was used to prevent drift onto adjacent plots. There was permanent snow cover from 15 Oct 86 to 10 Apr 87. Fungicide efficacy was evaluated 24 Apr 87 using a modified Horsfall-Barratt scale. Ratings were converted to percent diseased area before analysis. Pink snow mold caused by Microdochium nivalis (= Fusarium nivale) was scattered throughout the plot and complicated the evaluation of gray snow mold damage. Several treatments controlled gray snow mold, but Prochloraz + Flutolanil and Prochloraz + SN 596 gave the best commercially acceptable control. These two treatments also were effective in controlling pink snow mold in another experiment, and their spectrum of control may be responsible for their excellent performance in this experiment." |
