Abstract/Contents:Gives, in author's own opinion, characteristics of a quality golf green and describes management for golf green quality and speed based on location, climate, and season. Examples are from management practices used at Cedar Point Club, Suffolk, Va. Cultural methods described are nitrogen fertilization rate, mowing height and frequency, vertical mowing, rolling, and wetting agents. Suggests climate, season, and location must be considered when managing for quality and speed. Fast and true greens can be achieved with higher nitrogen levels but the more nitrogen applied the more grooming practices will be necessary. Superintendents have to determine the best program for their course.
