| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the career of golf course greenkeeper in the 1930s, highlighting the development of organizations for greenkeepers, including the National Association of Greenkeepers. Suggests that "the inception and success of these organizations are direct results of the desire of such men as Colonel John Morley and his co-workers to gain all the knowledge possible of the many intricate phases of golf course construction and maintenance and to pass it on to others." Mentions possible job duties of a greenkeeper, stating that "the successful greenkeeper has made a study of the architectural and constructional phases of golf course work...and has demonstrated his ability to execute any alteration in a manner that satisfies the whims of the golfer and at the same time simplifies maintenance problems more than the work of someone who is not as familiar with local conditions as he is." Discusses golf course renovation and equipment selection. |
