Abstract/Contents:Discusses "some of the reactions of [tree] roots to their environment and...some of the responses of old and newly transplanted trees to fertilizer applications." Suggests that "it is probably the root system that is largely reflected in the growth and luxuriance of the foliage." Describes the possible effects of air on root growth; the relationship between air and water; nitrogen fertilization; and the use of peat moss as a possible method of improving root growth.
