| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses environmental issues in turfgrass management, stating that "the [turfgrass] industry is under increasing pressure to decrease the amount of pesticides used in turfgrass management." Suggests that "Poa annua...is a problem caused by the management system. It would be possible to all but eliminate this weed by simple [simply] raising the mowing height and by fertilizing and watering less." States that "modern turfgrass management requires a 'common sense' approach that combines the proper use of pesticides with a thorough knowledge of how the grass interacts with its environment." Describes potential integrated approaches for disease control, including mowing height, fertilization, irrigation, pH, thatch, drainage, air movement, poling, syringing, disease-resistant cultivars, use of the right grass, and record keeping. Also discusses approaches for weed control and potentially environmentally friendly pesticides. |
