Abstract/Contents:"The water-holding capacity of a turfgrass rootzone is one of its principal technical features, and the characterization of this capacity is a matter of fundamental importance. Data from four trials were used to determine the extent to which values from classical soil science are relevant. It was shown that neither the so-called medium pore size range (0.2 to 10 um) nor a range extended to 0.2 - 50 um is adequate to characterize the relationship between the pores holding water that is available to the plant and the wilting of turf. An extension of the range to 0.2 - 120 um, however, gave results which agreed with the observation on sward wilting."
