| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to determine "the effect of different mowing regimes on the longevity and effectiveness of FC [FlightControl PLUS] to deter free-ranging Canada geese from using urban and suburban turfgrass sites. Additional objectives including testing goose feces for moisture and nutrient content, viable seeds and presence of Giardia, an intestinal parasite." Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "each day, observations included the number of geese at the site, the number of new fecal droppings along each transect and the mass of the feces from each transect." Reports that "after two field sessions, preliminary results are available. The change in use of each plot between pre-treatment and post-treatment conditions, as measured by fecal counts, varied among the eight sites. Some of the treated plots experienced decreased goose use after treatment, while others did not." Concludes that "two more 40-day field sessions are scheduled to begin in June and September of 2008." |
