Abstract/Contents:Discusses football field maintenance practices, including aeration, mowing, and rolling. Discusses maintenance at Michie Stadium at West Point, New York, with "turf-pluggers." Explains that the plugs were worked into worn areas of the field. States that "in order to encourage the roots of the plug to form a bond with the existing soil, [the crew places] in each hole, before it receives its plug, a commerical preparation. This 'take-hold' solution, high in phosphoric acid and also containing potash and nitrogen, stimulates root growth."
