Abstract/Contents:Profiles synthetic turf, highlighting its use on golf courses. States that "synthetic turf history started in 1965, when the famous AstroTurf was installed in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas." Details the development and improvement of synthetic turf, stating that "the most common synthetic turf is made out of polyethylene. The blades of grass are made out of polyethylene fibers that are sewn into some sort of a mat material. Textured nylon is also available." Suggests locations for artificial turf, including tee areas and practice areas. Also suggests that "synthetic turf is going to help [the golf] industry grow. It brings golf to sites that don't have the resources to maintain a traditional facility."
