| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to determine the effectiveness of Conserve, Provaunt, and Talstar in suppressing black cutworm larvae. Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "this experiment was completed on a bentgrass green maintained at Penn State's Valentine Turfgrass Research Center at University Park to determine the effectiveness of treatments against third instar BCW [black cutworm] larvae. Treatment plots were 6 x 6 ft [feet], arranged in a RCB [randomized complete block] design and replicated four times....Eight inch diameter by six inch long white PVC cylinders were placed in each replicate and secured in place." Reports that "all treatments provided significant reduction of BCW...3 DAT [days after treatment] and...9 DAT, while no treatments provided significant reduction of BCW larvae...16 DAT. Conserve SC was the least affective [effective] treatment. Excessive rainfall may have negatively impacted the residual activity of treatments. No phytotoxicity was noted." |
