| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests that "turfgrass stressed from poor cultural or pest management practices in the summer can cause problems that will linger into the following growing season. Fall is the optium time for lawn care and grounds professionals to make a successful spring transition." Recommends to "stimulate active growth [of cool-season] grasses with a complete fertilizer from August through September, and pay special attention in charging the nitrogen rates." Discusses mechanical and cultural maintenance, including aerification, and overseeding. Also mentions chemical controls, stating to "begin with establishing fertility to promote a healthy stand of turf and follow-up with the appropriate cultural and chemical controls to keep healthy turfgrass through the winter." |
