| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the turfgrass weed management program at Michigan State University (MSU). States that "in the past ten years [ before 2007 they] have conducted product evaluation trials and contracted applied herbicide and plant growth regulator research. This is a vital component of the weed management program." Explains that "many of [the] research projects have historically been developed in response to specific needs of the Michigan turfgrass industry and directly supported by the MTF [Michigan Turfgrass Foundation]." Also explains that "turfgrass management professionals, including golf course superintendents, sports field managers, sod producers, and lawncare operators, have spent years trying to eradicate annual bluegrass from [the] turf swards." Mentions that "annual bluegrass (Poa) is one of the most invasive weeds. It is also one of the most difficult to control." Briefly discusses quackgrass (Elytrigia repens), stating that it "is a very aggressive perennial grass that reproduces by rhizomes." Discusses broadleaf weed control. States that "without proper management weed control will be at best, temporary." Briefly comments on the weed garden, stating that "[2007] is the ten year anniversary for the weed garden at the turf center." |
