Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the role of communication in golf course renovation, highlighting renovations at The Cutten Club in Guleph, Ontario, Canada. States that "there were rudimentary plans for an irrigation expansion and a desire to renovate and add bunkers, in addition to adding some new teeing grounds at both a longer and shorter yardage." Explains that "the entire project was broken down into three phases. Phase one would be the installation of the irrigation system and the earthmoving portion of the golf course renovations. Phase two would comprise renovations to the course itself...The third phase, which needed to be completed first, was a comprehensive tree management strategy that was necessary in order to produce the necessary growing environment that would sustain these new features." States that "the capital improvement plan was taken and incorporated into the overall strategic plan in order for it to be communicated to the membership in the context of the club's business, marketing and growth plans...The communication strategy involved articles and pictures in the club newsletter and website, presentations at committee and board meetings, information sessions and presentations on the golf course itself." Concludes that "overall, the efforts to communicate the goals and progress of the project were successful. There was substantial support for the work from the membership and the disruption caused by the project was thought to be reasonable by the membership considering the amount of work that was accomplished." |
