| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests potential methods of diagnosing and fixing ignition problems in grounds maintenance equipment. States that "if [the] engine won't start, first check the fuel and oil levels, then check for spark"; "check the gap between the electrodes"; and "if the plug is reasonably clean and still has the proper gap between the electodes, [one] may want to do a field spark test." Details the ignition process and discusses trouble shooting and possible ignition myths. Concludes that "the modern ignition systems...rarely cause trouble, but when they do, the servicies of a competent and knowledgeable repair shop are worth more than they will ever charge...While doing it [in house] is tempting, time is money and a service technician who knows his stuff will save...a lot of money." |
