Abstract/Contents: | Results of 8 insecticides, 5 fungicides and 4 herbicides on earthworm populations and thatch decomposition when applied on a Kentucky bluegrass turf. Pre-weighed thatch pieces were uncovered 6 weeks after label dosages of pesticides were applied and watered in. Thatch from the nylon mesh bags were re-weighed and analyzed after incineration to determine organic matter loss. Worm populations were censused at 1 and 6 weeks after pesticide treatment using a dilute formaldehyde drench. Diazinon, Triumph (Kazaphos), Benlate (Benomyl), Sevin (Carbaryl), Mocap (ethoprop), and Turcam (bendiocarb) produced a statistically significant reduction relative to untreated control plots, ranging from 58.4 to 99%. |
