Abstract/Contents:When adults of the Cercopid Prasapia bicincta (Say), an important pest of Coastal Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) in south-eastern parts of the United States, were collected daily in southern Georgia by means of light-traps operated for selected periods in 1964-66, two periods of peak activity were observed in June and early July, during the first generation, and another (associated with minor peaks) occurred in late August-October, during the second generation. Although females made up only 19% or less of the collections from high traps (62-108 in. above ground), their proportion was greater in collections from most low traps (6 in. above ground). Also, the sexes were about equal in numbers in collections from two low traps in a heavily infested and severely damaged pasture. Thus, the height and position of the traps (in areas of undamaged or severely damaged pastures) were related to the proportion and number of females collected. Females were dissected to determine the number gravid, but this showed no correlation with trap height. Hourly collections from a trap operated from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for eight weeks in 1966 showed that flight activity usually reached a peak at 9 or 10 p.m.
