| Abstract/Contents: | Problems related to the use of chemical growth regulators on turf include phytotoxicity, increased weed growth, seedheads and loss of stand. Rate and timing of growth regulators are critical since approximately 50% of the total growth and almost all seedheads of cool-season grasses are produced during the spring. Presents results of 4 products: ACP 1911 (experimental at 0.07, 0.09, and 0.11 lb ai/acre), mefluidide (Embark at 0.375 lb ai/acre), clorsulfuron (Telar at 0.02 lb ai/acre and Embark + Telar at 0.09 and 0.02 lb ai/acre), amidochlor (Limit at 2.5 lb ai/acre) applied to tall fescue in 3 replications with a CO2 sprayer at 25 GPA. Spray applications were conducted at 5 different greenup stages on various spring dates. Vegetative color, overall quality, turf height, percentage seedhead coverage, and percentages of orchardgrass coverage and seedhead production are evaluated in tables corresponding to date of application. Research plot was contaminated with broadleaves, orchardgrass, and Kentucky bluegrass and maintained at 3 to 4 inches the previous year with no fertilizer applications being made for several years before the study. |
