Abstract/Contents:Results of new selective herbicides used for the control of Johnsongrass in a Kentucky bluegrass sod field at Paris, Kentucky. On July 7, 1987, four replications of all treatments were made. A repeat application of MSMA and Acclaim was made on July 21. The sod was unmowed during the study. Herbicides tested were MSMA (monosodium methyl arsenate), Acclaim (fenoxaprop-ethyl) and Pursuit (an imidazolinone). Soil moisture was excellent at the time of treatment; however, almost no rain occurred for the next several months. A lack of soil moisture greatly affected the herbicide efficacy. Data presents initial effects and total kill of Johnsongrass after five weeks. Although some initial kill was obvious, by the August evaluation some young Johnsongrass was reinfesting the plots. There was no Kentucky bluegrass discoloration caused by any treatment. Johnsongrass discoloration on July 14 (on 1-9 scale) and percentage control on 8/13/87 are presented in table.
