Abstract/Contents:Results of 2 tests evaluating herbicides used to control wild violets, one of the toughest to control lawn turf weeds in Kentucky. Test 1 presents data on herbicides used alone on five dates of application. Herbicides tested were: Turflon D, Turflon II, Garlon ester, Garlon amine, Trimec ester, and Trimec amine. Wild violet control ratings were taken June 26, 1987. May 22 only applications, and May 22 + Oct. 30 applications did not produce effective control for any of the herbicides tested, nor did Trimec amine in any combination of dates. Test 2 presents results on 14 herbicides applied alone and in combinations with other herbicides when applied on May 8 and evaluated on Sept. 10. Of the 31 treatments, Turflon D applied alone was the only herbicide to obtain 100% control of wild violets. Telar obtained nearly 100% control of yellow foxtail as well as some control (up to 77%) of wild violets.
