Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential wildlife impacts of turfgrass management, stating that "the management of higher quality turfgrass must be within the context of increasing regulations and environmental concerns. Many of these concerns focus on the use of synthetic pesticide on golf courses, athletic and sports turf, sod farms, home lawn settings, and other locations where attractive and functional turfgrass is desired...the products...on the markets...with their unique modes of action often require an advanced knowledge of pest biology and ecology to ensure the product is targeted most effectively for maximum effectiveness." Explains that "two components of insect biology and ecology appear to be among the most critical to implement effective pest control strategies. A thorough understanding of the life cycle of any insect pest is essential." Mentions research focused on "developing a sound understanding of pest biology to aid turfgrass managers in developing a working knowledge of pest life cycles." |
