Abstract/Contents:Reports that "a study using corn meal as a growing media for a fungal organism led to an observation that corn (Zea mays) grain contains compounds that inhibit the root formation of germinating seeds...It was later found that these root inhibiting compounds were concentrated in the protein fraction of corn. This protein is known as corn gluten meal (CGM)." Discusses corn gluten hydroysates, isolation of active compounds, biological activity, and natural herbicides.
