Abstract/Contents:Presents a study examining nitrogen (N)-fertilizer responses in tall fescue turf. Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that two trials were conducted "on the turfgrass research field of the Agricultural Center Limburgerhof, situated in the upper Rhine Valley in Southwest Germany on a loamy sand soil. Both trials on the same field consisted of parallel plots on a mature ploystand of Lolium perenne (Lp), Festuca rubra (Fr sp) and Poa pratensis (Pp) sown in 2002 as a German seed mixture 'General Turf' RSM 2.3 with 45% F.r. ssp ('Casanova', 'Bach', 'Samanta'), 40% Lp ('Chagall', 'Fancy') and 15% Pp ('Cynthia', 'Baron') and a pure tall fesuce sward, also sown in September 2002 ('Tulsa')." Reports that "there were no significant differences in the N-responses of the two turf swards. Both swards exhibited an improved turf quality with the increase in N-amounts and both swards reacted positively to N applications in winter as well as in summer." Concludes that researchers "found no fundamental differences in N-fertilizer responses between these two swards. To some extent, the tall fescue turf sward is less wear resistant than the Lolium perenne dominated 'General Turf.'"
