Abstract/Contents:Discusses turfgrass pest control in South Africa. Presents studies examining "environmentally friendly pest management recommendations implementing the use of less toxic insecticides." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "threshold levels were determined for white grubs (Aphodius pseudolividus Balthasar) on bentgrass...Damage assessment of mole crickets (Gryllotalpa africana Palisot de Beauvois) on kikuyugrass was done by soap flushing 0.25 m2 [square meter] areas and counting the number of emerging mole crickets." Concludes that "determination of the phenolgy, seasonal development, and damage caused by mole crickets and white grubs enabled the implementation of more environmentally friendly and sustainable pest management strategies to be recommended."
