Abstract/Contents:Discusses "how to determine whether or not the soil contains a sufficiency of lime." Explains that "one main use of lime is to neutralize the acidity of the soil, set up by the decomposition of organic matter." Describes potential methods for testing acidity of the soil using litmus paper. Also describes ways to apply lime to the soil, stating that "quicklime is distributed in small heaps at the rate of 1/2 ton to the acre...If carbonate of lime is applied it should be in a finely pulverized state and at the rate of 1 to 2 tons per acre."
