Abstract/Contents:Ultraviolet-light trap catches of Euchromius ocelleus (Haw.) near a field of ryegrass (Lolium) at Corvallis, Oregon, in 1969 indicated that this Pyralid was abundant throughout the summer and probably had four generations during the growing season. In the laboratory, attempts to rear the larvae on Poa pratensis, Dactylis glomerata, Cynodon dactylon, oats, Lolium sp., wheat and Trifolium hybdridum were unsuccessful, the larvae feeding on the last three plants and dying during pupation, but larvae reared on maize leaves gave rise to vigorous adults that laid fertile eggs. Attempts were also made to rear the larvae on the symthetic diets described by J. Bot, H. H. Shorey and R. L. Hale and L. M. Riddiford. These resulted in a uniform growth rate and pupation time. More adults were produced on the first diet than on the others, but after six generations the rate of adult production declined from 83 to 40% with most mortality occurring in the larval stage.
