| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles fairy rings on golf course greens. States that "compared with other turfgrass diseases, fairy rings are unrivaled in their complexity. Most other diseases are caused by one pathogen, which induces one characteristic symptom. With fairy ring, more than 60 different fungi have been associated with three distinct symptom types." Notes that "fairy rings must be managed keeping in mind that the pathogen induces symptoms by changing the soil. In order to suppress fairy ring symptoms, steps must be taken to return the soil to normal." Briefly discusses possible preventive control options. Reports that "one preventive spring application will not stave off high fairy ring pressure throughout the summer." |
