| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of washed sod as a "tool for sports field use," explaining that "after a couple months of establishment, washed sod performs like a two to three-year-old seeded stand. It provides better drainage and better rooting than traditional sodding because there's no soil interfacing at the surface to cause layering." Suggests that "washed sod should be installed within 12 hours of delivery and must be kept moist and shaded until that point." Highlights potential establishment procedures for washed sod, recommending to "prepare the soil profile to receive the washed sod by applying fertilizer and mixing it into the top inch of the media...Generally, the grass will have been maintained at a shorter mowing height, arriving at about 1.75 inches for washed bluegrass sod, so mowing won't be required for the first week or so." Suggests to "restrict all activity on the field, except for standard maintenance practices using lightweight equipment, until the sod is well established." Concludes that "if turf conditions are declining, bring in a consultant to help analyze the program. They're well worth the fees if they're able to save [one] money by preventing the need for resurfacing the field." |
