| Abstract/Contents: | The effects of feeding larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) on foliage from accession 239 of the resistant clone P.I. 289931 or from a susceptible cultivar (Coastal) of Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) were compared in the greenhouse in Georgia. The average duration of the life-cycle, larval mortality after 10 days, pupal mortality and pupal weights were 26.3 +- 0.33 days, 31.2 +- 10.5%, 37.1 +- 8.4% and 0.149 +- 0.146 g, respectively, for larvae fed on the resistant plants and 28.3 +- 0.33 days, 5.3 +- 2.9%, 22.5 +- 5.8% and 0.168 +- 0.006 g, respectively, for larvae fed on the susceptible ones. The data indicated that resistance in Bermudagrass may be important in avoiding damage by this armyworm. |
