Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the defoliation of some types of trees, shrubs, and flowers in southern Michigan, possibly due to Japanese beetles. Describes the life cycle of the Japanese beetle, stating that they "continue feeding and laying eggs throughout July and August...after feeding on leaves and flowers the beetles mate and lay eggs in turfgrass where they become the white grubs that eat turf roots." Includes the use of Sevin (carbaryl) or Bayer Multi-Insect Killer (cyfluthrin) as potential resistance methods, suggesting a spraying regiment of every week to two weeks through late August. |
