Abstract/Contents:Discusses possible reasons for failure of grub control. States that "the basic reasons for failure of...neonicotinoid insecticides is a simple fact: the grubs were not exposed to sufficient insecticide to kill them...The other common reason why a grub insecticide doesn't reach the grub is the tendency of pesticides to bind (absorb) to organic matter." Explains that the "most...commonly used grub insecticides (neonicotinoids, acelepryn, and carbaryl) are moderately sticky, so thatch thickness in a turf stand is an important factor to look at. Generally, most entomologists get wary of thatch layers in the half-inch range." Suggests the use of Arena, Meridian, and Merit, stating that they are still "excellent grub control products when applied from mid-August through the first week of September."
