Abstract/Contents:Describes the design and construction of the new South Golf Course at Wentworth. Acidic soil with a pH as low as 3.5 in some areas was treated with calcium carbonate in granular form to ensure that native ferns and heathland in the course surrounds were not damaged. The greens were constructed with a Terram membrane lining the bottom, a 100 mm stone drainage layer, a 50 mm blinding layer and then 250 mm fine sand before turf was laid directly on the sand surface. Includes a hole-by-hole description of the course.
