Abstract/Contents:Suggests that "even if man were superhuman and could supply all the maintenance factors to the fullest possible extent, the weather or nature can still ru growthin turf and lead to Poa annua and clover invasion." Presents possible factors that encourage Poa annua and clover, including "soil compaction"; "the overuse of water leads to loss of the permanent grasses and the development of P;oa annua and clover"; "insect damage"; and "disease damage." Also presents possible methods of reducing the occurence of Poa annua, including to "use the best grasses available"; "keep a solid turf cover"; "proper watering" and "keep compaction at a minimum." States that "lowering height of cut suddenly in hot weather, overwatering, compaction, and disease result in weaker turf and allows clover to increase." Suggests to "use caution with chemicals," recommending to "use them on an experimental basis in order to become familiar with their peculiartities."
