Abstract/Contents:"Imazaquin and AC 263,499 were eveluated for control of wild garlic and warm season turfgrass tolerance. Preemergence applications of imazaquin and AC 263,499 made early September provided a maximum of 40% control of wild garlic. Rice flatsedge control was excellent at rates of 0.14 kg/ha of higher. Postemergence applications of 0.56 kg/ha imazaquin of 0.28 kg/ha AC 263,499 made in early March gave excellent control of wild garlic compared to poor control with 2,4-D + mecoprop + dicamba (1.12 + 0.56 + 0.12 kg/ha). Wild garlic control was observed within 6 weeks following March treatments. Significant reductions in wild garlic infestations were observed in November, 9 months following the March treatments, with 0.56 kg/ha, or higher, rates of imazaquin or AC 263,499. No herbicidal activity was apparent on wild garlic at 2 weeks after early November treatment when plots were mowed, but no regrowth was observed 1 month after mowing at 0.28 kg/ha imazaquin or AC 263,499. Turfgrass tolerance varied depending upon the turfgrass and date of application. Significant discoloration and growth retardation was observed on bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] but not on centipedegrass [Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.]. Severe growth inhibitation was observed on bermudagrass when treated with imazaquin or AC 263,499 on November 5, 1985. A light frost occurred the night following treatment and bermudagrass did not green-up again in plots treated with either herbicide at 0.14 kg/ha or higher rates."
