Abstract/Contents:"Field experiments were conducted to evaluate the response of 'Tifgreen II' bermudagrass and 'Penncross' bentgrass to single applications of six postemergent-applied grass herbicides. Fluazifop and sethoxydim were applied at rates of 0.10, 0.20, and 0.30 kg ha-1 and fenaxoprop, haloxyfop, SC-1084, and xylafop at rate of 0.07, 0.15, and 0.30 kg ha-1, respectively. Each treatment had crop oil concentration added at 2.40 ha-1. Turf quality was visually estimated by color and density ratings. Turf color was evaluated on a 0 to 9 scale where 0 = complete kill, 7.5 = minimum accepability, and 9 = best quality. Turf density was evaluated on a 0 to 100 scale where 0 = bare ground and 100 = total vegetative cover. Unacceptable color and density were observed with all herbicides and rates on 'Penncross' bentgrass at 14 and 28 days after treatment (DAT). Fenaxoprop at 0.07 and 0.15 kg ha-1 showed some tolerance 28 DAT with near acceptable color (7.0), however, turf density was significantly lower that the untreated check. Unacceptable quality ratings were observed with fluazifop, haloxyfop, sethoxydim, SC-1084, and xylafop on 'Tifgreen II' bermudagrass at all rates evaluated. Fenaxoprop produced initial discoloration at all rates, however, color ratings were not significant from untreated check 49 DAT at rates of 0.07 and 0.15 kg ha-1. Bentgrass density was not significant from untreated check 35 DAT at these same rates."
