Abstract/Contents:Profiles bermudagrass and zoysiagrass, highlighting potential advantages and disadvantages to each species. States that "bermuda is a natural weed control...It reduces the need for irrigation water...There is grass to cut in the summertime. Golfers have grass when they want it...[but] it is hard to establish on large areas...[and] it needs more nitrogen than most grasses." Explains that "zoysia is preferable to bermuda in some cases...It tends to start a little sooner in the spring and stops growing a little later...[but] it is more costly and may require somewhat more water...An advantage is that zoysia is easier to control and it will invade bermudagrass under some conditions." Suggests planting locations for bermudagrass and zoysiagrass, stating that "bermudagrass belongs on the tees and fairways...Zoysia belongs on the aprons, collars, around the traps, in wet areas, and on shady tees." Suggests methods for planting each species, stating that "the most economical use of material is to plant sprigs in a clean seed bed, such as a nursery."
