Abstract/Contents:"Railroad Vegetation Management is the main concern of all Class I Railroad roads due to the wide variety of weed situations. Herbicide selection and timing of application is critical. Railroad vegetation control is conducted by Chief Engineer or the Vegetation Engineer. The two basic reasons for vegetation control on Railroad Roadbed and right-of-way are 1) Safety and 2) Improve effeiciency of track maintenance. All railroad vegetation control is set into FRA (Federal Railroad Associations) standards. These standards are Federal Law so railroads can be and are fined for violating them."
