Abstract/Contents:Discusses possible methods of selecting golf course staff. States that "while the objective of an effective recruitment process is to generate a good sized pool of suitable applicants for the job, the aim of selection is to objectively assess each applicant and select the one who is most appropriate." Emphasizes that "as New Zealand is making greater commitments to biculturalism and equal employment opportunities, an organisation's [organization's] selection process must ensure that the best person for the job is selected. Selection procedures should focus on specific job-related behaviours [behaviors] to ensure that individuals are not discriminated against on the grounds set out in the Human Rights Act 1993." Suggests potential methods of employee selection, highlighting their potential benefits. Offers suggested interviewing techniques, stating that "the interview is the most widely used selection method. It can take several forms. They can be individual interviewers, panel interviews, unstructured or structured. All interviews suffer from reliability because of interviewer bias." Also discusses psychological testing, assessment centers, references, and the use of biodata, as potential methods of determining employee performance.
