Abstract/Contents:Discusses bowling green renovation, highlighting possible benefits. Suggests that "not surprisingly, many clubs who question the importance of renovation, struggle to retain or attract members and appear to be financially strapped." Lists possible problems that occur from bowling green use, including compaction, thatch accumulation, water ponds or puddles following rain or irrigation, and shallow rooting. States that "there is no 'one cap fits all' treatment for renovating greens...[Managers] must assess the state of [their] green at the end of each season objectively and prescribe the appropriate treatment as opposed to conducting treatments based on what [they] may have done [in previous years] or what the club down the road is doing." Discusses possible physical treatment options, including grooving, slicing, verti-draining, core aerification, drilling, vibra-moling. Also briefly discusses topdressing.
