Abstract/Contents:Explains that "soil fertility is a critical requirement in providing a high quality playing surface for bowlers." Discusses soil testing, stating that "with the exception of nitrogen a soil test provides a snapshot of the nutrient status within a green at a given time. Where soil testing is repeated with time and detailed fertilizer records are kept, fertilizer programmes [programs] can be fine tuned so that fertilizer applications match losses due to plant growth, leaching, harvesting and nutrient cycling." Profiles different types of fertilizers, including organic, inorganic, NPK [nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium] products, and controlled release fertilizers.
