| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were evaluated as preventive and curative agents against dollar spot on irriagated bentgrass golf green plot at the St. Paul Campus. Treatments consisted of 4 replications of 4 ft x 12 ft plots arranged in a randomized complete block design. Fungicides were applied with a self powered wheel mounted boom sprayer which delivered 2 gal suspension per 1,000 sq ft at 50 psi. Applications began on 30 Jun with additional applications on 14, 28 Jul and 11 Aug for 14 day schedule treatments and 21 Jul and 11 Aug for 21 day schedule treatments. Each treatments plot was paired with a check plot. Data was recorded weekly thru 8 Sep as number of infection centerd per plot. Data recorded as 'new' and 'old' infection centers on 14 and 28 Jul reflect large increases in disease severity in check plots while treated plots remained nearly free of new infections. Curative and long term residual control was evaluated following the 19 Aug switch of treated and check plots. Fungicides were applied weekly 19, 25 Aug and 2 Sep for curative results. All products provided good to excellent control in the preventative program. Rrecovery was limited by the growth required to fill in long-term diseased spots under the curative stage. Differences in infection levels of 25 Aug and 2 Sep were judged to be due to slower grass growth as no mycelial growth was observed in curative plots. PP 523, Rubigan and Banner exhibited slight phytotoxicity on 21 Jul and 18 Aug. The damage was mostly confined to plot edges, where start up and shut down occurred. All preventive treatments were significantly different (DMRT, P = 0.05) than the check from 14 Jul to 19 Aug, while curative results were not." |
