| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the new hard fescues and their ability to provide a low-maintenance turf for 1) urban sprawl into suburbs with limited water resources, 2) changing priorities in institutional maintenance budgets, 3) greater awareness and need for erosion control, 4) the Dept. of Agriculture's Conservation Reserve Program. Little or no maintenance, green color when no water is available, and when fertility and soil conditions are poor are factors in favor of the hard fescues. Various studies on hard fescues are discussed. |
