| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were evaluated for their ability to control marasmiellus blight on American beachgrass in Avalon, NJ. Seedlings were transplanted (30/plot) at 1.5 ft intervals on 12 Nov 82 along coastal dunes that had recently been deduned by pathogen. Plots were 7 ft x 7 ft and treatments were replicated 5 times in a randomized block design. Granular fungicides were applied with a 1 L plastic shaker bottle containing 30-five mm hole. Applications were made on 30 Mar, 20 Apr, 20 Jul and 3 Oct 83 and 27 Mar and 19 Sep 84. Weeds were controlled manually during the study. Treatments were evaluated visually on the basis of total plant number and overall stand quality. The pathogen was not consistently reisolated from beachgrass transplants until 84. Throughout the study, Daconil-treated plots exhibited superior stand quality and lower mortality compared to untreated plots. This trend, however, was not statistically significant until 12 Oct 85. Further evaluations will have to be made to determine the effectiveness of these treatments on American beachgrass growing in M. mesosporus infested soil." |
