Abstract/Contents:Discusses potential solutions to thatch buildup. Lists potential problems associated with excess thatch, including increased disease and insect problems; localized dry spots; chlorosis of the turf; proneness to scalping; foot printing; decreased heat, cold and drought hardiness; restricted rooting; and nitrogen immobilization. Suggests the use of organic matter testing as a potential method of determining which renovation practices may reduce thatch buildup.
