Abstract/Contents: | Details turfgrass breeding, stating that "turfgrass breeding in new Zealand has provided the turf industry with a series of cultivars adapted to [the] unique conditions of climate, pests and turf use." Explains that "New Zealand turf breeders were among the first in the world to make use of endpphytic fungi to provide insect resistance and persistence in turf ryegrass...[and] New Zealand breeders have developed well adapted browntop cultivars from material collected in old greens." Concludes that "there still remains considerable potential to improve turf cultivars for New Zealand conditions provided the industry can sustain breeding programs." |
