Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide treatments were evaluated on an experimental bentgrass green at Purdue University. The turf received conventional care and was maintained at 5 mm height. Treatments were applied to 1 m x 2 m plots arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. One meter wide untrested buffer strips were left between treated plots to reduce interplot interference. Treatments were applied with a hand held CO2 pressurized sprayer at 20 psi with a 9504E Tee Jet nozzle tip at a rate of 2 gal/1000 sq ft. Untreated control plots were sprayed with water only. All treatments were first applied on 14 May. Thereafter, Cadminate and the 2.0 oz rate of Chipco 26019 were applied at 28 day intervals; a total of 4 applications with the last being on 9 Jul. Both Tersan 1991 treatments were applied in 14 day intervals; a total of 5 applications with the last being 9 Jul. The 1.0 oz rate of Actidione TGF and Daconil 2787 alone treatments were applied at 7 day intervals; a total of 10 applications, with the last being on 16 Jul. All other treatments were applied at 21 day intervals; a total of 4 applications, with the last being on 16 Jul. The number of infection centers/plot were reduced on 17, 19 Jul, 13 Aug, 4 and 18 Sep. Apr was dry and warm. May and early Jun were wet, while late Jun, Jul and Aug were very dry. Late Aug and Sep were slightly above normal in precipitation. Temperatures from may thru Sep were slightly cooler than normal. Dollar spot did not appear in the plots until 14 Jul, about one month later than normal for the past 10 years. At the time of first appearance, the disease was moderately severe. It increased slightly in severity until the end of Jul, then decreases to light to moderately light levels thru Sep when ratings were discontinued. All treatments had significantly less dollar spot than the untreated control, although the 0.4 oz, 0.6 oz and 0.8 oz rates of CGA 449 would not be considered adequate control for a golf course putting green. Resistance to benomyl appeared in the experimental area in 82, and no benomyl or benomyl-like fungicides were used on the area in 83 or 84. benomyl treatments were added this year to determine if the resistance was still present. Interstinly, the benomyl treatments gave excellent control, and there was no evidence of resistence. Prochloraz + Actidione TGF was phytotoxic to the bentgrass at the 4.5 oz rate but not at the 3.0 oz rate. The phytotoxicity was moderately severe on 28 May. The injury persisted for approximately 10 days. it then disappeared and was not observed again during the test period."
