| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were evaluated for their effectiveness in controlling snow scald on a predominantly Kentucky bluegrass baseball field in Breckenridge, CO (elevation: 9,600 ft). The disease has occurred annually since 1982, the first season the turf was grown and the disease identified. The soil profile consists of layers of bedrock, crushed fine sand, native soil and 4 inches of porous top soil. The soil pH varies from 6.7 to 7.2. Fungicides were applied 23 Oct 84, the first day of permanent snowfall to the region. Fungicides were delivered from an R&D CO2 powered backpack sprayer equipped with 8003 Tee-jet nozzles at 30 psi with the equivalent of 3 gal water/1000 sq ft. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete blocke with four replications. Each individual plot measured 5 ft x 5 ft. Fungicide effectiveness for preventive control was evaluated at snow melt on 20 May and again 30 May based on a visual assessment of percent plot infection using a modified Horsfall-Barrat scale. Disease development was uniform and severe in control plots. Both formulations of Terraclor and Bayelton 25W gave excellent control. Prochloraz 50W and Prochloraz 50W + SN 84364 also gave good disease control, but SN alone was ineffective." |
