Abstract/Contents:"Fusarium blight of 'Merion' Kentucky bluegrass has not been adequately controlled on a Long Island, New York golf course (1972-1974) by benzimidazole-derivative systemic fungicides. Fusaria from the golf course grew in vitro on potato-dextrose agar medium amended with 1000 μg benomyl/ml. All isolates of Fusarium roseum and F. tricinctum from diseased turfgrass elsewhere on Long Island in 1974 were severely inhibited at 1 μg/ml, and were completely inhibited at 10 μg/ml. Cross tolerance was shown to the benzimidazole-derivative fungicides benomyl, thiophanate and thiophanate-methyl. Four experimental fungicides and zinc ion-maneb complex were studied in vitro as possible alternatives for suppression of Fusarium blight. The fusaria were sensitive to 10 μg/ml of α-(2-chlorophenol)-α- (4-chlorophenol)-5-pyrimidine methanol and to a mixture of tetra- and pentachlorophenates, less sensitive to 1-isopropyl-carbamoyl-3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)hydantoin, and tolerant of 2-[3'-methoxycarbonyl)-thioureido]-O,O- diethylthiophosphoroanilide and zinc ion-maneb complex."
