Abstract/Contents:Presents the results of a study conducted in Christchurch, New Zealand, utilizing "the Beneficial Outcomes Approach (BOA) to identify outcomes that residents desire from Christchurch parks and constraints to their use of essential information for effective management of Christchurch parks." Explains that "the BOA builds on the ROS [Recreation Opportunity Spectrum] and provides for outcomes rather than simply outputs. It enables urban parks to be planned and managed to optimise [optimize] identified beneficial outcomes and to minimise [minimize] negative outcomes." Also explains that this "research aims to fill a gap in the information about the outcomes that Christchurch residents think are important in their parks." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "the survey was conducted in three different areas of Christchurch so that a comparison of results could be made between groups of people with the lowest levels of deprivation, medium levels of deprivation, and the highest levels of deprivation...Every street was visited within the sample areas and households were sytematically selected by visiting every third household. Flats and apartments were considered as separate households...In an attempt to achieve the highest participation rate and to get the best quality data, the survey was conducted face to face and was interviewer administered. 200 surveys were conducted in each of the three areas, a total of 600 surveys." Reports that "early findings suggest that while there are many similiarities across the three research areas, there are also some big differences in the parks that people use, why they use them, and what they want from them."
