| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were evaluated at the Rutgers Turf Research Farm in Adelphia, NJ on Palmer perennial ryegrass at a 1.5 inch cutting height. Seed was sown on 16 Sep 84. Ryegrass received 2.4 lb actual N(1-6-4)/1000 sq ft between 8 Apr and 8 Jul. Weeds were controlled with 0.75 lb 2,4-D + 0.25 lb Dicamba/A on 15 Apr and 15 lb Dacthal 75W/A on 17 Apr. Turf was irrigated as needed to avoid water stress. Soil was a sandy loam of pH 5.9. Plots were 3 ft x 9 ft and tretments were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design. Fungicides were applied with a CO2 boom sprayer, Tee Jet 8003 nozzles, at 30 psi. The equivalent of 2.0 gal of water per 1000 sq ft was used throughout the test. Treatments were applied on 6 Sep and 24 Sep. Turf was visually rated for percent area infected with crown rust on 6 Sep, 15, 22 and 30 Oct. Plots were left unmowed after 1 Sep to encourage disease development. Stem rust infection was slow to develop in the test area until 15 Oct. All products provided good to excellent disease suppression under the conditions of the study. Residual activity lasted for more than 4 weeks. Although disease ratings for chemically treated turf were statistaclly different from untreated plots on 30 Oct, the level of infection was commercially unacceptable. No phytotoxicity or growth regulating effects were observed." |
