Abstract/Contents:"An undescribed disease occurred on bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) on greens on a new golf course during hot and humid weather in the summer of 1975. Circular dead areas of turf (30 to 90 cm in diameter) with small areas of living grass (10 to 15 cm in diameter) in the center developed throughout the summer. Sclerotia of Sclerotium rolfsii were associated with the dead turf, and S. rolfsii was isolated from dying bentgrass at the periphery of the affected areas. Isolates of the fungus were pathogenic on bentgrass in the greenhouse. Southern blight of bentgrass is the common name proposed for this disease."
